Becoming visually literate

Throughout this term I have noticed the expansion on an area of the brain I suppose I never noticed before. That doesn’t make sense, does it? How can I notice the expansion of something I never noticed before (sometimes I crack myself up. I think I’m over tired).

What I mean is, prior to this class, I noticed if I found something appealing or if I didn’t. That was pretty much the extent of my visual literacy. Now when I notice something that I do or do not enjoy, I better understand why that is.

For instance, why do I find this image

more enjoyable to look at that this…

The top image is obviously an example of a photo that follows the rule of thirds which is visually more appealing and in my opinion allows us more opportunity to really “see” the whole photo.

Another really significant thing I learned in this course are all the legalities of images. I would be terrified to ever create a public blog in fear of getting sued.

That being said, this is NOT a public blog so here I go and get it all out of the way.

I have to say though, the absolute most significant thing I learned this semester is this…

I cannot express my gratitude for this conversation.  I had no idea this was actually a thing.
